Whilst PET bottles cannot be pasteurised, they’re gaining global market share for a number of reasons. Internationally, beer produced in bespoke PET solutions compares favourably in taste to glass and cans. And, environmentally, the lower packaging weight of PET reduces the carbon footprint of the distribution system and on a one-way packaging basis, PET bottles are both cheaper and more efficient. Another benefit is increased consumer and operator safety during filling by eliminating glass breakages. Although unlikely to replace glass and cans in the short-term, there exists a clear niche for PET in the beer industry and the company’s bottles have gained in popularity and acceptance in many areas.
