On the 1 year anniversary of our role model Madiba’s passing , Boxmore employees with their extended families got together once more to spread some Christmas cheer to those less fortunate than themselves. Every year the Boxmore Cares Day gets bigger and better. All the way from Durban and Johannesburg, Boxmore employees make the trek to Harrismith to spend some time with the kids of the Maluti Child Care Initiative. Each year we are more humbled as we see the joy and happiness on the faces of the kids whom we entertain. Simple pleasures such as face painting and hair spraying – a tattoo here and a tattoo there, a hula hoop competition, some soccer games bring joy to these young faces. Then we end a day full of fun and laughter with the prize giving. Over 700 bags were prepared for handing out and once again Boxmore employees threw themselves into the process – thank you Boxmore for showing that we care.
This time around we extended our arms to encompass the kids of the Hope House in Harrismith town. What an awe-inspiring experience. A well run facility that is impressive in the way it is being operated. Clean, well maintained, and a real pleasure to visit. We handed out bags to the kids as well as clothing and toys donated by Boxmore employees. Kids who smiled, sang a Christmas song and a tribute to Madiba made us all feel the warmth of Ubuntu and showed us the true meaning of Christmas. With tears in our eyes we bid farewell to the children, having realized that here is another home where Boxmore employees can show we care.
Whilst all around us are stories of poverty, despair, corruption and sadness, for one day in the year we can spread some hope as Boxmore Cares.
