FRANKIE'S OLDE STYLE SOFT DRINK COMPANY SELL THEIR MILLIONITH ICON BOTTLE.
Success in these tough economic times is something to be celebrated. It is with this in mind that Boxmore Plastics would like to congratulate Frankie's on achieving this milestone. A little over a year ago, Boxmore and Frankie's introduced a new "iconic" 500ml PET bottle and since then over 1 million bottles have been sold. The innovative product offering, together with the distinctive look and feel of the Frankie's brand and the new bottle, has taken the Frankie's brand to the next level. Boxmore is proud to be part of the success of this unique brand.
HUMBLE BEGINNINGS :
From a humble 100 litres per week in 2006, Mike Schmidt, co-owner of Frankie's Olde Soft Drink Company, and his team have grown their business to produce more than 25,000 litres per week in just 4 years. Based on their farm factory in Balgowan in the Natal Midlands, Frankie's have taken on the giants in the carbonated soft drink (CSD) industry. They have carved out a niche for themselves under some of the most difficult trading conditions in recent history. Producing innovative, top quality drinks to an ever-increasing market, the Frankie's range boasts 6 unique flavours: Home Made Ginger Beer, Fiery Ginger Beer, Original Cream Soda, Cloudy Lemonade, Cinnamon Cola and Olde Style Root Beer
OOZING WITH CHARM :
One of the secrets of the Frankie's success is the exceptional packaging design. Oozing an old style charm, the consumer is drawn to trial at the very first glance. Distinctive artwork, neck label and iconic bottle shape are all part of the unique Frankie's look and feel . It is this consumer appeal (and hard work) that has seen the distribution of the product grow from local farm stalls and restaurants to mainstream retail and convenience chains such as Spar, Pick n Pay, Sasol, Total and Dischem. More major retail outlets are on the cards, and that means that this home-grown brand is set to take an even bigger share of the CSD market in the near future!
OUTSTANDING DESIGN :
Recognizing the potential of Frankie's brand, Boxmore Plastics has been part of the Frankie's story since the company's inception in 2006. Frankie's began, as many smaller brands do, in Boxmore's standard range of bottles until in early 2009 when Frankie's approached Boxmore looking for something unique to take their brand to the next level.
The long neck "beer"-like bottle design was a combination of Frankie's co-owner Mike Schmidt's idea's and Boxmore's bottle development team innovation. Originally developed with the artisanal beer industry in mind, Boxmore tweaked and embossed their bottle to form the platform for a now iconic CSD brand. The unique design enhances visibility in a competitive market and the embossing gives the bottle a classic old style "glass" look and feel. The bottle also features an improved 6 foot petaloid base, that not only handles the high carbonation requirements of a CSD, but also ensures stability on-shelf and minimises bottle weight.
Perhaps most importantly however, the low profile finishes off the bottle elegantly and set's it apart from a "normal" CSD. Boxmore also offer this bottle with a shelf life extending barrier layer sandwiched between layers of PET although Frankie's have yet to require this additional protection. The barrier layer technology unique to Boxmore is perfect for more sensitive products like alcoholic malt based products or those requiring longer shelf life on CSD's. Demonstrating their confidence in this local gem, Boxmore have awarded Frankie's exclusive rights to their bottle for CSD applications.
