Company Background

Boxmore Plastics SA ( Pty) Ltd. is a South African registered and owned company. One of the pioneers in the South African PET Industry, Boxmore was established in Harrismith, South Africa in 1996 by Irish packaging group Boxmore International and later amalgamated into the US based Chesapeake Group. In 2009 Boxmore was sold by Chesapeake to a locally based private equity consortium, a local investment bank and management in a leverage buy out deal. Currently shareholding includes a majority share held by a prominent “black” owned Private Equity group.

PET is recycled through mechanical recycling or de-polymerisation. During mechanical recycling bottles or preforms are shredded into flakes.
