BOXMORE : LEADERS IN PET PREFORM BEER BOTTLE MANUFACTURING & DESIGN
Boxmore Plastics South Africa has been on the forefront of the
PET pre-form and bottle manufacturing industry for 15 years. Operating from various local and international facilities, we supply the beverage industry in over 26 countries. Our ISO 9001:2008 standard accreditation enforces our commitment to quality, innovation, and market-breaking technological trends.
In keeping with our promise of superior quality and innovation, Boxmore SA recently announced the launch of our first 500ml and 1.0lt bottles specifically designed for the beer industry. The new bottles are sure to step change the perception of PET in the beer industry and have already been embraced by South Africa's leading
microbreweries.
CHANGING PERCEPTIONS
The "Beer" bottle design balances the needs of the alcoholic beverage's specific market requirements, typically delivered by a glass bottle, with the practical benefits that a PET solution offers. Whilst the bottle look and feel is decidedly premium the bottle is stable and easy to handle. The bottle is available in a range of colours from Amber to Green and glass like embossing can be added to the shoulder to further distinguish a brand. Both 1.0lt and 500ml bottles feature an improved six foot petaloid base that not only handles high carbonation but also ensures on-shelf stability. As a result of the recent experiences in sports arena's Boxmore believes that the South African beer consumer is more than ready to accept beer in a PET bottle.
The new bottles not only look good, through their leading edge technology Boxmore can customise the bottles to meet the specific needs of their customers. An oxygen scavenger can be added to increase shelf life for sensitive products and Boxmore can also offer a unique multi-layer solution for the 500ml bottle should CO2 retention be a concern.
GOING GREEN
As a solution for the beer market, although these PET bottles cannot be pasteurised, PET is certainly gaining market share across the globe for a number of reasons. Internationally beer produced in bespoke PET solutions, compares favourably in taste to glass and cans. On an environmental level the lower packaging weight of PET reduces the carbon footprint of the distribution system and on a one way packaging basis PET is both cheaper and more efficient. Other benefits include increased consumer and operator safety during filling by eliminating glass breakages, and low unit costs. Although unlikely to replace glass and cans there is a clear niche for PET in the beer market and Boxmore bottles are leading the trend.
